The Auctioneer
Michael J. Carver, NH Lic. #3081 & VT Lic. #2371
Mike is a buyer, seller, collector, appraiser, and auctioneer of quality antiques, home accessories, and collections, specializing in 18th and 19th Century American furniture, primitives, firearms, coins, and more.
Mike's respect for antiques began in 1979, just out of high school in Massachusetts, where he worked as an apprentice to both an auctioneer and a master upholsterer near Boston. In 1988, he and his wife, Jan, moved to Littleton, NH where Mike began repairing, restoring, and selling antique furniture, earning a reputation as Dr. Carver, “The Furniture Doctor”.
In 1996, Mike and his wife moved to Lisbon, NH and renovated the 3-story barn at their 1781 farm property along the Ammonoosuc River. In 1998, they opened Ammonoosuc River Trading Company, a store that gained widespread respect for its significant inventory of antique furniture, collectibles, Oriental carpets, reproductions, and decorative accessories. In 2002, Mike became an auctioneer and started Ammonoosuc River Auction Company, conducting auctions at various venues in the area. In 2006, the retail store closed to allow Mike to dedicate his talents (and barn) to auction and appraisal services, both in great demand within the area.
Mike is a 2002 graduate of Mendenhall School of Auctioneering Resident Training in High Point, North Carolina. In addition to his auction work, Mike conducts appraisals at the request of individuals, insurance companies, attorneys, and estates.
Today, Mike offers customers more than 40 years of direct experience in the purchase and sale of quality antiques, collectibles, primitives, household accessories, glass, jewelry, equipment, vehicles, firearms, and general estate items.
The Boss
Jan Carver, Marketing & Communications
Fortunately, Jan loves antiques and auctions too. With 25 years of experience in sales, marketing, and customer service (and married to the auctioneer), her talents are put to good use before, during, and after auctions. She is responsible for the company's websites, social media, auction advertising, and bookeeping, and manages the auction day experience for bidders and staff. Jan is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College with a degree in English and a full-time marketing officer for a local community bank.
